Problem of declining workforce is getting serious

Žarko Radulović

Tourism sector lacks workforce and that problem is going to escalate. Country will be forced to figure out how to keep a good employee at the Montenegrin coast.

Co-owner of HG Montenegro Stars and president of the Montenegrin Tourist Association, Mr Žarko Radulović, says that we are faced with serious problem. Seems like importing workforce from Indonesia and Philippines is the only way out.

He warns that next year the problem is going to get even worse.

“Why is this happening? We should think about it for a while. The lack of workforce is obvious, but that’s not the case in Montenegro only. Croatians are dealing with the same problem. This issue is very difficult to tackle”, says Mr Radulović.

Salaries can’t be risen without endangering business.

“Contributions could be reduced, but I don’t think it will be enough. People expect more than they can really earn. We must start thinking about importing workforce”, says Mr Radulović.

Montenegrin Employers Federation (MEF) said that Montenegro would also be affected by the outflow of workforce. In fact, consequences of the outflow can already be felt in Montenegro.

If such trend continues, representatives of MEF believe that outflow of workers will be devastating for Montenegrin market especially given that Montenegro has been struggling with lack of workforce for years.
