SDP welcomes Pažin’s appeal to court presidents to withdraw from their positions

Zeković

The Social Democratic Party, SPD, welcomes the invitation of justice minister, Mr Zoran Pažin, calling on the president of the Supreme Court, Ms Vesna Medenica, and presidents of basic courts who have been holding their positions for more than two mandates to resign, a vice president of the SDP, Mr Bojan Zeković, told earlier today.

Mr Zeković said that it was good that the Minister accepted the views of the European Commission, EC, which was telling that a democratic society could not have a kind of concentration of power in courts through multiple mandates of court presidents.

“It’d be better and much more useful for Montenegro that the Minister endorsed this same position of the SDP a year ago, when he himself, being the member of the Judicial Council, voted for the election of those same court presidents he now urges to withdraw.”

Being a political figure in the Judicial Council, the job of the justice minister is to point out to deviations in a certain area of power, according to Mr Zeković.
