Šehović: Digitization is a prerequisite for high-quality education

“It is time that we provide our children with traditional content in a new, their way – through digitization of the education system”, said Minister of Education, Mr Damir Šehović at the World Education Forum, which was held in Lisbon.

He said we didn’t want to put children before screens but we should help them to acquire knowledge with the use of new technologies.

Mr Šehović took part at Roundtable of the Ministers of Education entitled “Digital skills: Transformation in one generation”, where he exchanged views with his counterparts from the region.

Mr Šehović pointed out that our children were part of bigger global digital generation, given the fact that a great percentage used a computer or internet, although dominantly for social media.

Nothing is going to change unless we provide them with durable, traditional education but in their own way, through the world they understand – digital world.

“We made some steps towards the improvement of our education system in the context of digitization. In cooperation with the European Investment Bank, we will renew IT equipment, Plans are afoot for the pilot-project of digital classroom, in which we will offer contents from classical books in digital form to our pupils”, said Mr Šehović.

He explained that “digital form” didn’t mean transferring from classical to digital form only, but also the use of animations and other digital forms, with the aim of bringing the lessons closer to pupils.

The emphasis of this year’s World Education Forum is put on the latest PISA report and its main provisions.
