Sekulić: Submarine cable is as important as the highway

Submarine cable connecting Montenegro and Italy, which is 433 km long, is currently in testing phase. Couple of days ago voltage test was completed successfully and everything went according to plan, says Minister of Economy, Mrs Dragica Sekulić. The cable is expected to be used for commercial purposes by the end of year.

“Total infrastructure related to putting the cable into service has been constructed and completed. Testing is under way. Everything has been successful so far”, says Mrs Sekulić.

This project, worth around €1 billion, provides multiple benefits, says Mrs Sekulić.

Thanks to submarine cable (1000 MW) Montenegro is going to become energy hub in the WB.

On one side, Balkans market is connected to the EU market and the transmission network in Montenegro is going to improve.

“Submarine cable is highway in the area of energy – that’s how important it is. Everything that’s produced in Montenegro will have its market outside of Montenegro. That will have  benefits for state and private companies in Montenegro” says Mrs Sekulić.

After the cable is put into service, citizens can expect lower electricity bills.

This project will stimulate investment in the new energy resources, renewable in particular.
