Serbia’s Ministry of Finance has denied allegations of some Montenegrin media that Serbia is close to reaching an agreement with China on the redemption of Montenegro’s highway debt.
As Ministry told B92.net, this information is “false”.
Some Montenegrin media have recently released information that Serbia has entered finishing phase of the negotiations over redeeming a loan from the Chinese Exim bank for the construction of the highway section that goes through Montenegro.
In case Montenegro is not able to repay this loan, and Serbia and China reach an agreement, one of the options for Montenegro would be to rent part of the highway in Serbia.
“In that case, Serbia would become economic ruler of Montenegro, which is almost certain now, given the fact that our economy is weak”, Montenegrin media have said.
