Special State Prosecutor’s Office permanently seized almost €30 million

In 2015 and 2016, Special State Prosecutor’s Office permanently seized € 29.579.897,13 of the proceeds from crime. In the proceedings, Special State Prosecutor’s Office has reached agreements on the confession of guilt with the physical persons and legal entities, by means of which they obliged to return the proceeds of crime. The agreements were accepted by the High Court in Podgorica and the procedures were legally finished. These cases are known as “the cases from Budva”, said the Special Prosecutor, Lidija Vukčević.

In 2018, Special State Prosecutor’s Office has taken away great quantity of cigarettes that amounted more than € 10 million.

“An indictment has been brought in one case; it was against a physical person for the abuse of position in business. The agreement on the confession of guilt was reached. The person was imprisoned and fined”, said Mrs Vukčević.

The other two cases included the indictment against 25 physical persons, and two business entities for smuggling cigarettes of foreign origin. The cigarettes were stored in the customs free zone of the port in Bar and the goal was to sell them at the grey market.

In the case known as “Vardar”, Special State Prosecutor’s Office instituted proceedings against 83 physical persons and 56 business entities for the establishment of criminal organizations and evasion of taxes and contributions.

“It has been established that they evaded paying taxes in the amount of € 1.829.296,69”, pointed out Special Prosecutor.

Last year, Special State Prosecutor’s Office reached 43 agreements on the confession of guilt with the perpetrators in the domain of organized crime.

“In all the agreements prison sentences have been imposed. Some of cases included a fine, as an additional punishment”, said the Special Prosecutor Vukčević.
