State collected €61m in revenues from excise duties

From the beginning of the year to the end of April, the state has generated €61 million from excise duties on fuel, alcohol, alcoholic and carbonated drinks, as well as tobacco and tobacco products, the Ministry of Finance told Dnevne Novine daily.

Of this amount, revenues from excise duties on fuel amounted to €40.8 million, which is by 0.3% less compared to the first four months of 2019.

“Revenues from alcohol/alcoholic drinks amounted to €3.3 million, which is by 10.7% less compared to the same period last year, while the collection of revenues form excise on tobacco and tobacco products was €14.7 million, i.e. it was by 40.8% higher compared to last year. Collection from excise taxes on carbonated drinks amounted to €2.2 million, which is by 1.8% less,” explained the Ministry, adding that the data on the collection of revenues for May would be available by the end of June.

On the possible increase in excise taxes in order to boost revenues in the budget in light of the economic crisis due to Covid-19, the Ministry said such a decision required in-depth analyses, as the govt’s topmost priority has been to strengthen fiscal stability.
