Ten to Eight – Belveder Bastards

Good morning! Yesterday, we had I hint through an audio recording of what was happening and preparing  in September last year; what Krivokapic wrote in a message to Abazovic; who the new MPs are; what the mayor of Podgorica thinks about the elections, how the Budva carnival was misused for propaganda of the war in Ukraine.

We were hyperactive this weekend, Andrej Nikolaidis published two columns. In the first, he referred to the illogicality of the report on the state of democracy in Montenegro and Serbia, but also to something else in the context of the election of the new government. In the second, he sharply attacked the hypocrisy of Minister Milojko Spajic, who remembered excise duties and low prices after he himself contributed to inflation with his decisions.

I spoke to Dusan Pajovic, a young left-wing activist from Kotor and an associate of Ioannis Varoufakis.

Belvedere dastards

With these words, the demonstrators in Cetinje were allegedly called by a high police official Petar Knezevic, who became known to the general public after receiving a bundle of icons from a priest in front of the Monastery on 5 September, after which he took pictures with Serbian Metropolitan Joanikije II. In the same audio recording that was anonymously delivered to activists Aleksandar Sasa Zekovic and Svetlana Pajovic, Knezevic can be heard saying that criminal groups offered him help to “disperse the bastards”, but that they themselves “conquered” Cetinje.

The recording shows another police official threatening one of the government officials that he would allegedly rip his throat out.

The newly appointed Minister of the Interior, Filip Adzic, reacted and said that Knezevic would be held accountable if in the process of establishing the facts and circumstances, it is determined that the audio recording is authentic and that it’s his voice.

It’ll be over Dritan

Former Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic could not get over the “betrayal” of his former comrade-in-arms, so he decided not to attend the handover. Instead, he left him a spiritual lesson, which he probably learned from priest Gojko Perovic who preaches the stoic endurance of both good and evil by reminding of the transience of life.

“The handover of duties to the Prime Minister as a protocol gesture is practiced in conditions of undisputed legitimacy”, Krivokapic wrote on Twitter.

According to him, “considering that we have a violation of constitutional and business procedures, I do not want to give legitimacy to the obvious violation of democratic and legal postulates by simulating regularity”.

“I left a clear message in the cabinet about the passing: It will be over!”, Krivokapic concluded.

Who are the new MPs?

After some MPs joined the government, and after some people from the Front resigned for various reasons, Montenegro has new MPs. Some are known from before, and some MPs are in the parliamentary benches for the first time. CdM released a list of all the names of the new MPs on Saturday.

Vukovic on local elections

The mayor of Podgorica and the DPS deputy leader, Ivan Vukovic, is in favor of postponing the elections, in accordance with the initiative submitted to Parliament by the newly formed majority. He says that they are preparing for the elections that the President announced for 19 June, but that it would be good to postpone them. He did not pay too much attention to the questionable constitutionality and legality of the decision on postponement, but spoke more about the political reasons for it. We remind you that the constitutionality of this decision has been questioned by many representatives of the civil sector. You can read the reasons mentioned by Vukovic here.

Scandal at the Budva Carnival

The Embassy of Ukraine in Montenegro said that it was appalled and it strongly condemned yesterday’s event in Budva as part of the International Tourist Carnival “Long Live Love”, during which, as they said, there was a cynical and ruthless attempt to identify the victim – Ukraine and the country aggressor – Russia. You can read the full text of the announcement here.

That’s it for today. We wish you a pleasant rest of the day.

Kind regards,

Ljubomir Filipovic, CdM analyst
