Ten to Eight – How government stirs tensions

By Ljubomir Filipovic, CdM analyst

Good morning. You’re reading a daily contextual review of the news that marked the previous day.

How the government heats up tensions?

It’s been two weeks since we’re trying to reduce tensions – we, who’re protesting against this government. Read the articles and posts from the past two weeks, urging for a peaceful and non-violent resistance, see that the rally was held on 22 August in order to send a message and try to avoid any conflict and reduce tensions. And what did the other side do in all that time? It has been stirring tensions.

They burn banners, take off them and threaten. No one from the government condemned such behavior.

First, the Metropolitan of the Church of Serbia in Montenegro, Joanikije II, addresses the other side, striking a mocking and threatening tone, in a supposedly conciliatory message. Now the prime minister calls the protesters smugglers and criminals. Prior to that, his deputy had been threatening “half of Montenegro” for a year. They call the opposition media spokesmen for crime gangs. All the time they arrogantly and recklessly raise tensions and threats. Yesterday, the son of the councilor of the government in Tivat threatened to make Srebrenica out of Cetinje on September 5. The young man is a member of the Orthodox youth of Tivat, trained by the militant priest Mijajlo Backovic.

Yesterday, a session of the National Security Council was held with Milan Knezevic as a member. A man convicted of the 2016 coup. A man who praises Putin and Kadyrov and who is openly in line with those structures in Russia. Such a council announced that everything in Montenegro was in the best order and gave its consent for the enthronement on September 5 in Cetinje. Before the session, announcements had already begun by the groups of the Church of Serbia in Montenegro regarding the organized arrival of buses to Cetinje, as well as over the information about the security and public health measures that day. So we learned that they already know about the measures before they’re officially declared. And that’s not surprising having in mind that their member is running the ANB.

In addition, the warm-up events before the enthronement ceremony have started in order to create a real atmosphere in Cetinje. A kind of counter-meeting in the town of Danilovgrad. Replay of Slobodan’s Gazimestan.

Father Gojko Perovic now officially regretted

The Synod of the Church of Serbia dismissed Archpriest Gojko Perovic. He will perform the tasks of the rector of the Cetinje school of theology until August 31. Thus, by this act of dishonorable dismissal, a man who served to deceive a part of Montenegrins that the Church of Serbia is a Montenegrin church, was officially regretted. Every man who advocates for two opposing sides will end up like Father Gojko. Once they don’t need him anymore, he will be pushed aside and harassed. Like URA after all, which allowed all this to happen to us. Medojevic can solely serve us to see how people like Dritan Abazovic, Filip Adzic and similar ones will end their political careers.

Continuation of harassment of Montenegrin MPs

It seems that the Serbian police has a list of Montenegrin MPs who should be harassed at the border. After several of his colleagues, the leader of the Bosniak Party, Ervin Ibrahimovic, was searched in detail by the Serbian police on two occasions yesterday, when entering and leaving this country, the BS announced. According to the Bosniak Party, Ibrahimovic first experienced discomfort and harassment at the Spiljani border crossing, when entering Serbia, where he was detained for more than an hour. Without any explanation, the police searched in detail his official vehicle.

American congressmen cancelled their visit to MNE due to health situation

A delegation of the US Congress comprising six senators was supposed to pay an official visit to Montenegro on August 26th and 27th. The visit was canceled yesterday due to a sharp rise in the number of coronavirus infections in Montenegro. According to the Voice of America, the US State Department again advised US citizens not to travel to Montenegro seven days ago. As part of the amended recommendations for international travel, which are regularly issued by the State Department on the basis of health and safety conditions in countries around the world, the level of warnings for Montenegro has been raised from the third to the maximum, fourth level.

That’s all for today. Until tomorrow.
