Ten to Eight – PM’s first summit

Good morning. You’re reading a daily contextual review of the news that marked the previous day.

By Ljubomir Filipovic, CdM observer

PM’s first summit

“Summit in the Laibach pie shop” is the name of Rambo’s song released 30 years ago, and serves as an excellent report from the PM’s official trip to Brussels. In a joint photo of NATO leaders, he looked confused as if he wasn’t quite aware what he was doing there. Even though he allegedly got unconditional support from the presidents Biden and Macron for what he has been doing in Montenegro, his team managed to make a mockery of it on Twitter.

In the light of the Summit and the latest information released by the White House announcing sanctions, it’s interesting to read Pobjeda’s interview with Mr Roderick Moore, the first US Ambassador to Montenegro.

Insult to Sasa Zekovic

The Civic Initiative ‘21st of May’ organized a gathering yesterday in front of the Ministry of Justice and Human and Minority Rights to rally against the government’s non-transparency. They also sent a letter to Minister Vladimir Leposavic concerning equal rights of all religious communities. During the gathering, an external expert in the justice ministry and ex-journalist, Mr Mladen Stojovic, insulted a member of the ‘21st of May’ Civic Initiative and a civic activist, Mr Aleksandar Sasa Zekovic. Mr Zekovic told the CdM portal that he had reported the case to the police. The ‘21st of May’ and many other organizations condemned such behavior of the ministry’s associates.

Ignoring Montenegrin athletes

Montenegrin Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Zdravko Krivokapic and Mr Dritan Abazovic, as well as Parliament Speaker, Mr Aleksa Becic, congratulated the Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic on winning Roland Garros, but failed to do it for the Montenegrin tennis player Danka Kovinic, when she qualified for Olympic Games. Unbelievable, but true in today’s Montenegro. They all congratulated Djokovic via Twitter, which provoked numerous reactions from users of that social network from Montenegro.

Diary of party positioning and Russian-Serbian impact

Mr Bozo Milonjic was dismissed as the secretary-general of the Government of Montenegro. Reportedly, Ms Zana Milacic, the wife of the leader of the pro-Russian Real Montenegro, Mr Marko Milacic, is to succeed him.

Leaders of the Democratic Front, DF, Mr Andrija Mandic and Mr Milan Knezevic, are visiting Moscow on the invitation of the Russian Duma, that is, the Committee on International Affairs, headed by Mr Leonid Slucki.

The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, run by Minister Vesna Bratic, has announced amendments to the criteria for awarding titles for teachers, as well as the revision of curriculums. CdM interlocutors reacted, noting that the existing educational system requires changes, but has to be carried out in a systematic and transparent way.

Party positioning of “memes creators”

For days on end, we have been hearing that admins of fascist memes pages are being recruited by the ruling regime thus making up to them for their services. It may be that the DF is recruiting them everywhere, even in Elektrodistribucija, having in mind their rising criticism at the expense of PM Krivokapic.

Lowest grade when it comes to rights of LGBT community

The Government of Montenegro has got the lowest grade when it comes to the fundamental human rights of LGBT community, while they (LGBT community) remains open for another chance and urges an immediate and full commitment of the government in meeting all the obligations to the LGBT people. This was stated at the press conference of Queer Montenegro, which presented the outcomes of monitoring the work of the government in relation to the human rights of LGBTIQ people, announcing rallies of a part of the community in front of the government and parliament buildings. The representative of Queer Montenegro, Mr Danijel Kalezic, underlined that respect of the fundamental human rights of LGBTIQ people goes backwards.

Protest in Cetinje

An anti-fascist walk ‘We’re all Ljubo’ was organized yesterday in Cetinje at 7 p.m. People gathered at Dvorski square and went down to the ossuary and Vlaska church. Cetinje residents gathered to condemn a shameful act of the desecration of Ljubo Cupic memorial.

That’s all for today. Until tomorrow.
