The Government is setting up a company for management of forests

Vlada Crne Gore

By the end of this year, the Government will have set up a new company which will be in charge of managing forests, reports the Audit on the strategy of the development of forests and forestry by 2023.

This document, adopted during the Government session held last week, defines that the new Limited Liability Company will manage forests in state ownership, which includes design of contractor’s projects, selling wood and construction.

In private forests, this company will perform professional tasks, including the activities of the protection from fires and issuing certificates on the origin of wood products.

According to the recommendations of the Government, new strategic document defines the reduction in the number of strategic measures and activities, abandonment of the model of concession and selling wood assortments on forest storehouses.

In addition, the document proposes new mechanisms of sale through Wood stock as well as the completion of the operation information system. In order to achieve these objectives, it is necessary to invest 11 million EUR in forests.

“Besides, special attention should be paid to the development of the sector for purchase and processing forest fruits, mushrooms, herbs and essential oils”,reads the document.

Projected financial funds for the implementation of the strategy reviewed in 2019 and 2020 amounts 12.195.000 EUR.

Activities analysis indicated that not even 55% of this plan hasn’t been implemented so far, because the strategy for the first three years had too ambitious demands.

“The key problem lies in the identified weaknesses in the system of the use of forests through concessions and adopted mid-term concept of the development of wood industry”, indicates the adopted document.
