The Government won’t give up, bridge Verige is going to be built

Most Verige

The Government hasn’t given up on the construction of the bridge Verige which is going to connect two sides of the Bay in Kotor. As CdM finds out, some very serious international investors are interested in this project and according to the estimates, the project will be worth €150 million.

As representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs said, in 2017 conceptual design of the bridge with the height of 65 meters was drafted by “Tempuspromet” from Zagreb.

Omega Consult and CEED conducted the feasibility study. Provisions of the Spatial plan referring to the particular purposes of the coastal region, stipulate the obligation of carrying out special HIA study, for all major facilities, and for this bridge too. The conceptual design and the HIA study will be delivered to UNSECO.

In addition, provisions of the Spatial plan require that new locations of the traffic pass across the Bay of Kotor be examined. After all these tasks are fulfilled, optimal requirements for the implementation of this capital project will be considered further.

“During 2009, the Study of the visual impact of the bridge Verige on UN ESCO and on the cultural and historical region of Kotor was completed. The objective of this study was to visualize and project independent positions of the bridge and connecting traffic facilities in the gorge Verige”, said the representatives of the Ministry.

Conceptual design

This Study was designed on the basis of the Report of the UNSECO mission which stated that “the planned bridge does not pose a danger for the area of world heritage of UNESCO”. The study was conducted by Institute for Urbanism and Regional Planning from the University in Aachen, Germany.

“Monteput” took over some tasks, following the recommendations of the Study and they refer to some additional technical checks, reconsideration of the tunnel pass variant, possible correction of bridge height, relocation of toll station and so on.

“Conceptual design of the tunnel pass and the previous feasibility study, it turned out that tunnel pass variant is far more unfavorable from the urban and spatial, technical, economic, transport, ecological, functional and safety aspect”, said the representatives of the Ministry.
