Turkish TAV might take over Montenegrin airports

Turkish TAV might take out lease on airports Podgorica and Tivat. This company has shown greatest interest so far. The Turkish company manages airports in Skopje and Ohrid and “Franjo Tuđman” airport in Zagreb, in cooperation with the French companies.

However, the Government hasn’t considered the concession act yet. One of the reasons is that members of Social Democrats requested that several very significant shortcomings be eliminated from the concession documents. Specific solutions might be different from the solutions of coalition partners, and in the context of lawfulness, there must not be any such differences.

TAV company built an airport in Tunisia in only two years and now it manages the airport. It also owns airports in Turkey (Istanbul Ataturk, Ankara, Izmir…), Georgia and Tunisia. It also manages Macedonian airports as well as the airport in Riga.

Granting concessions on airports is usual in the region. Albania was the first country to do that, in 2005. Then came Croatia, with the airport in Zagreb. Serbia did the same thing last spring with the “Nikola Tesla” airport in Belgrade – the agreement with the French Vancy Airports corporation was signed for the period of 25 years
