Up to 2K fines for nontransparent officials

ASK / APC

The public officials’ deadline for submission of annual reports on revenues and assets expired on Saturday, March 31, the Agency for Prevention of Corruption reported.

The Agency did not specify the number of officials who failed to send their reports, explaining that it will wait a few days to allow for the mail-sent applications to arrive. Perhaps it would be interesting to know how many officials sent their reports via actual mail, and whether in the age of e-mail this remains a common practice with Montenegrin officials.

The Agency did, however, say all information will be available next week, when it expects to “initiate procedures from its jurisdiction against those officials who did not submit their reports”.

If a public official fails to fulfill his\her obligations under the Law on Prevention of Corruption, or if he\she does not register his\her property and income within the deadline, they may be fined from 500 to 2,000 Euros.

Somewhat answering the mail-related question we previously had, the Agency said it received a total of 590 reports by February 9, 452 of which were processed and published on the Agency’s website. There you go, Internet.
