Violent extremism in Montenegro isn’t a serious problem

Montenegrin institutions and other subjects combating violent extremism and radicalization, cooperate and create full synergy, which has produced considerable results in the previous period, it was said at the Conference on the Prevention and Suppression of Radicalization and Violent Extremism in Podgorica.

The problem of violent extremism in Montenegro isn’t serious. However, considering the fact that no country is immune to such phenomena, work of all relevant subjects is constantly improved. Quality organization of the structures of state institutions and civil society has been formed, with a view to providing systemic response.

National coordinator for fight against violent extremism, Mr Dragan Pejanović, pointed out that Montenegro had made a step forward in this domain in comparison to countries in the region, by establishing National platform for fight against violent extremism.

“Apart from the National operation team for fight against violent extremism, our systemic approach has been further strengthened by formation of the Team for Protection and Assistance in charge of dealing with individual cases and establishing high-quality communication with the public and creating a website”, reminded Mr Pejanović.

The goal is clear – we want to increase resistance of Montenegrin society against radicalism and violent extremism, strengthen institutions and other social subjects, through the engagement of entire society.

He also emphasized the role of civil sector, academic community religious communities, media and private sector.
