Why did Abazović and ANB allow Simijanović to escape?

Mr Stevan Simijanović, an American-Serbian-Montenegrin national, detained in the town of Nikšić last week on suspicion of using a forged US diplomatic passport, to whom the Civic Movement URA paid for accommodation in October last year, left Montenegro on 12 February and went to Serbia, Pobjeda daily has learnt.

The fake American diplomat left Montenegro driving Audi with the Novi Sad plates – NS 368 HD -across the border crossing Dobrakovo, shortly after 8 pm on Friday. Fun fact: just at the time when Deputy Prime Minister and coordinator of all security services, Mr Dritan Abazović, was trying to explain his own connections with Mr Simijanović, speaking in a TV show on the public broadcaster, RTCG.

Mr Abazović admitted that the National Security Agency, ANB, checked on all data about Mr Simijanović, allegedly upon his own initiative, and found that he was not “clean”. However, DPM didn’t tell how it was possible that Mr Simijanović was walking down the streets of Podgorica several days after the arrest?

Now we’re certain that Mr Simijanović was not under any kind of surveillance after his detention in Nikšić.

The “security alarm” didn’t go off even when it was officially determined he was not the US diplomat, that is, when first official ANB’s checks were completed.

One thing is for certain: the ‘fake diplomat’ affair cannot be perceived as a benign security failure of the Montenegrin services. It’s like a classic action of incorporating agents into the Montenegrin security services.
