Newly appointed commander of KFOR mission, Italian General Lorenzo D’Adario said in the interview for “Pobjeda”, that KFOR was ready to intervene in Kosovo if the stability of the region is threatened. He also said that the decision on the transformation of the security forces of the Army of Kosovo had been brought at the wrong time.

As he says, KFOR commander wants to keep up with his predecessors’ efforts to create stable, safe and peaceful, multi-ethnic surroundings for the citizens of Kosovo, and  thus fulfilling the term of office in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution 1244.

“When I took over the duty of the 23rd KFOR commander, it was the greatest honor in my professional life and I saw it as a huge privilege. Our motto is “Enduring commitment” and we chose that motto so that we can apply joint efforts of all 28 nations and NATO partners. We are not alone, we work with other international organizations as well as with local institutions and neighboring countries. In that spirit, our motto refers to the joint vision, joint purpose and focus on the joint future”, said D’Adario.

Asked to comment on the recent transformation of security forces of Kosovo, d’Adario said that KFOR didn’t deal with politics.

“I’d repeat the opinion of the Secretary General of NATO who said that the transition of security forces was a thing that only Kosovo should decide on. But we’ve said it clearly, that decision was brought at the wrong time”, said D’Adario.

Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, said that if the mandate of Kosovo forces evolved, NATO would reconsider the engagement in Kosovo.

D’Adario gave his opinion on the participation of Montenegrin soldiers in the mission of KFOR and said it was very important for a neighboring country to contribute to safe and secure environment and freedom of movement on WB.
