Investments in tourism are worth €3 billion

Investments that are being realized in tourism today are worth €3 billion, said the Director of the Montenegrin Investment Promotion Agency, Miloš Radulović.

By the end of this year, there will have been major investments in the area of transport and energy as well. Furthermore, there’s a great interest for the construction of gas plant in our country.

“First quarter of 2019 records a significant increase of FDI, in comparison to the same period last year. FDI gross inflow amounted around €182 million and it’s increased by 31,5%. Net inflow amounted €83 million and it’s by 63% higher”, said Mr Jovanović.

As he pointed out, considerable increase of FDI is the result of the improvement of business environment, stabilization of public finances, increase of credibility of political and economic prosperity and reinforcement of the rule of law practice.

“Analyses will show that existing investments have created conditions for the development of concrete green filed investments. Considering that FDI are a good indicator of the trust in the economy, its growth, employment, transfer of technology and productivity increase, we can make projections that the growth of these mutually dependent variables is going to continue”, says Mr Jovanović.

According to him, NATO membership had a positive impact on the FDI.

“The first and the most important effect is that the potential and existing investors feel a lot safer while investing or reinvesting in Montenegro. Potential investors invest in the countries where their investments will be safe and where they won’t lose their money”, explains Mr Jovanović.

He says that major foreign investors currently invest in tourism – tourism at the south of the country to be more precise.

“Investors who are building Porto Novi, Porto Montenegro, Luštica and other capital projects are the main promoters of Montenegro as prestigious and safe investment destination. They are world-known leaders who show that our country is safe for investments and thus serve as an example to other investors. In the forthcoming period, we expect increase of investments in the area of transport, in accordance with the new law related to the public and private partnership, as well as in the energy sector”, said Mr Jovanović.

Some major new investments are in prediction.

“We have great potential investors who are interested in the capital projects envisaged by the Privatization Plan. The south of the country is practically developing by itself, thanks to huge investments that have already been realized and thanks to those that are underway”, says Mr Jovanović.

New ski resorts might be constructed in the north and they can be seen as potential big investments as well.

“There’s a circle of renowned investors who are interested in the construction of the second block of thermal power plant and construction of the gas plant in Montenegro”, points out Mr Jovanović.

Priority is the economic promotion of the north.

“Enormous unused potentials can be valued with capital, knowledge and technologies of credible foreign investors. There will be even more interested investors, I firmly believe so”, says Mr Jovanović.
