Milosevic: We expect an excellent result in the local elections

Tarzan Milošević

The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) will achieve excellent results in the local elections that will be held in autumn in three municipalities, so that it will be able to form local governments itself, the party official Tarzan Milosevic said.

By the end of November, local elections will be held in Petnjica, Mojkovac and Cetinje, the municipalities where DPS is currently in power.

Milosevic believes that the results DPS has achieved in all three municipalities will be the reason for the citizens to support the party to continue to exercise power there. As he said, the implemented projects confirm the serious work of people who head local self-governments.

Milosevic called in mind that in addition to the three municipalities it is possible that elections in Ulcinj will be scheduled It depends on the agreement of the coalition partners whether they will be held together with the elections in these three municipalities.

“In any case, I do not think that the ruling coalition at the state level among DPS, Forca, the Social Democrats and the Democratic Party is not called into question,” Milosevic said.

Commenting on the opposition’s claims that the DPS is gradually losing municipalities and that this trend will continue in the autumn elections, Milosevic said that in some municipalities there was a re-structure of political forces.

“In Budva and Kotor DPS was in power together with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and in Herceg Novi with the Izbor (Choice) coalition. We preserved our strength and energy. SDP moved to other side. Thanks to that, the government in these municipalities was taken over by another coalition, which I consider unnatural,” said Milosevic.

Asked whether preparations for presidential elections started in DPS and whether a presidential candidate was mentioned, Milosevic said that the issue has not been discussed yet. He added that he was sure DPS’s candidate will win the election, no matter who he/she was.

Commenting on the claims that Milo Djukanovic will be DPS’s candidate, Milosevic said he was sure the party leader would beat any candidate.

“Djukanovic is a man with the greatest charisma and strength in Montenegro and I am sure he would beat any candidate. It depends on him whether he will accept the candidacy,” Milosevic said.

He also denied allegations that DPS is becomes weaker and that there are several different factions within the party.

Asked whether the quality of the adopted laws could be questioned, given that there are no “opposing opinions” presented in Parliament and whether the institution lost its control role, Milosevic assessed that it is important that all laws and decisions pass a certain procedure, that they are subject of public debate and that they are published in the media and on government’s website.

According to him, all interested parties and citizens have the right to give their opinion on these laws.

“It is logical that, if there were more people in the Parliament, there would be more quality objections and suggestions. In this way, citizens are potentially harmed the most, but I am sure that we pass laws in accordance with European norms and regulations, and that they correspond to the interests of Montenegro,” said Milosevic.

As he stated, the goal was primarily to improve the business and legal environment in Montenegro, which will also improve investments.

“I think we have succeeded to a great extent, but I believe that the next period will be as important for the adoption of new decisions and laws. I believe that there is room for our colleagues to join us in the Parliament as of autumn,” Milosevic said.
