In the accession process, Montenegro is obliged to ensure a better focus on the rule of law, fundamental rights, functioning of democratic institutions, public administration reform and economic criteria. This was suggested in the conclusions of the EU’s General Affairs Council, which endorsed the new methodology for negotiation talks with Montenegro and Serbia, writes Dan daily.
The EU’s Council agreed on the application of the revised enlargement methodology for accession negotiations with Montenegro and Serbia after both candidate countries declared they accepted the new methodology. Changes will be harmonized with the existing negotiation frameworks with Montenegro and Serbia during inter-governmental conferences. The conference with Montenegro was held on 22 June.
