The Ministry of Sustainable Development has issued a building permit for the construction of the Smokovac-Matesevo Subsection 3.4.1 including the Podovi bridge and open segments.

“The Podovi bridge will be 172m long. The construction works on the 3.4.1. subsection also include works on road drainage system and the construction of retaining walls, culverts, and slope protection,” Pobjeda newspaper reports.

The construction of the priority Smokovac–Uvac–Matesevo 41 kilometre section began 11 May 2015, the start of a four-year deadline within which the Chinese company must complete works.

The section will cost €809m, and has been financed by a loan from the Chinese Exim Bank.

The priority section will include 16 tunnels, 13 bridges, 5 viaducts, and 4 loops.
