Six eco hotels in Montenegro

Since the beginning of the year, six hotels have become eco-certified accommodation facilities in Montenegro, whereas many hotels have begun the certification process, the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism stated.

The certificate is issued on the basis of checking compliance with 22 binding criteria out of the total of 43 criteria.

It is a confirmation that the certified facility conducts an ecological concept of work in practice, saves energy and water, takes care of preserving the natural environment, promoting sustainable transport and works to reduce waste generation.

The ministry emphasises that a particularly important segment of this certificate is the active communication and promotion of the ecological vision of tourism at the hotel level, and in cooperation with guests, entrepreneurs, suppliers and other partners.

The EU Ecolabel was established 25 years ago and enables the promotion of products and services on the market of 500 million inhabitants, which includes some of the most important emitting markets, such as Germany, France, the Benelux and Scandinavian countries.

The project Development of Low Carbon Tourism, implemented by the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism and the United Nations Development Program Office (UNDP), in cooperation with the National Tourism Organisation of Montenegro, supports the introduction of international European Union Eco-label and Travelife certificates for hotels and apartments.
