Songs to the Serbian people, lighting of torches and fireworks: Will organizers be prosecuted?

Last night a group of Podgorica residents took to the streets in some parts of the city to “celebrate the ‘Serbian’ New Year’s Eve”. This was all done in violation of the measures adopted by the Ministry of Health aimed at the prevention of spreading the coronavirus. The question is whether the organizers of this gathering will be invited for an interview and prosecuted, as was the case recently when Montenegrins gathered in front of the Parliament of Montenegro while MPs discussed amendments to the Law on Freedom of Religion.

After that, the organizers were summoned to the police for an interview.

Prohibited are public gatherings, leaving the houses after 10 pm, celebrations of the Orthodox New Year’s Eve…

Still, as videos published by CdM show, the citizens gathered last night, violating measures and causing public disturbance… They were singing songs of the “Serbian people”, and lighting fireworks and torches…

There was also a police car nearby, but as the video shows, they made no reaction.

The Montenegrin public is waiting to see if the police and Prosecutor’s Office will react to these events and prosecute the participants.
