United Europe is in the EU’s interest

European Union should demonstrate readiness to support the enlargement policy and Montenegro on its way to EU membership, especially through closing chapters for which the conditions have been met, said chief negotiator ,Mr Aleksandar Drljević, in the meeting with the Head of the WB Division in the European External Action Service, Ms Elsa Fenet.

Mr Drljević pointed out that the primary goal of the integration was to provide better life for Montenegrin citizens.

He reminded that Montenegro was a leader in the EU integration process, and that it was very important that the Union kept the principle according to which candidate countries acceded the Union on their own merits.

“We firmly believe that the EU will show even greater stronger support for Montenegro’s integration process and that it will recognize the interest of united Europe and keep the enlargement policy high on the agenda. We are focused on the implementation of reforms in the area of rule of law”, said Mr Drljević.

Ms Fenet said Montenegro’s contribution to maintaining stable regional cooperation was considerable.

“EU members are interested in accelerating the enlargement process and make it more effective. The prerequisite for that is progress in the area of rule of law”, said Ms Fenet.

Mr Drljević told Ms Fenet that representatives of civil sector and members of working groups in Montenegro were willing to negotiate.
