Former Chief Special Prosecutor, Milivoje Katnic, arrested on the order of the Special State Prosecutor’s Office (SDT) on 14 April, who has gone on hunger strike after being put in a detention of up to 72 hours, sent a letter to his son, Radun.

Of all the media, the letter was forwarded to Standard and Pobjeda daily.

“Raso, you know that I haven’t become a member of any crime gang, but that this is a conspiracy of this fascist group who came to power and uses unity (both professional and moral) of the prosecution and court to show me as a criminal by skilfully manipulating with the facts and lies. They have put on airs so much that they’re showing it publicly. Although there was a chance to launch proceedings against me several months ago (Adzic told it during the show aired on the public TV station), and they could have done it in the beginning of this week, they waited until Sunday just show that they can control the investigative judge Scepanovic, so that no one from us – the Montenegrins – can hope the case would be taken by the honourable judge Mugosa,” Mr Katnic starts his letter.

“You know that I’ve always loved life and fought for it believing it’s one of the highest values. But the life without honour and dignity is worthless. This fascist group wants to take that away from me, by keeping me here for years as a “dog behind bars”. You know how much I hated that, we didn’t even lock our dogs, I made a huge space for them. Beside that, they want to destroy you, my family, by watching how they’re taking me tied up from Spuz to Podgorica. It’s why hunger strike is the only self-help option called ‘last resort’ in law.”

He continues: “You know that I’m isolated, that I don’t know what’s going on in the outside world, but while I’m writing this to you, I heard through the window the loud muttering of some detainees who are taking a morning walk, that they’re interrogating all the prosecutors whose boss I used to be, and they mentioned the prosecutors Jovicevic and Radovic. By the way, it’s the ‘udba’ method used by prosecutor Soskic.”

Former chief special prosecutor Katnic, among other things, says his son that “hunger strike is the only option” and that “they will try to prevent me once I enter the state of coma, after, let’s say, a month, by providing healthcare in the hospital. But Raso, as soon as I recover, I’ll continue to fight until the new dawn rises. When the Montenegrins wake up from a “deep sleep they’re sleeping”.
