Montenegro to continue on its way despite the interference of Russia and Serbia

Following his working visit to the United States, Deputy Prime Minister Zoran Pažin met with representatives of renowned American organizations of civil society at the Embassy of Montenegro in Washington. Opinions were exchanged on current political and social opportunities and challenges, and the importance of uniting progressive social forces for further democratic development of Montenegro and the region was pointed out, the government stated.

A professor at the John Hopkins University, Mr Daniel Serwer, assessed that it’s crucial for Montenegro citizens to continue on their way.

“They have embarked on a path of independence, equal rights for all citizens, and I hope that they will continue on their way despite the interference of Russia and Serbia and despite the behavior of the Serbian Orthodox Church. All this should be seen in the context of guaranteeing equal rights. And if you can achieve that, Montenegro’s future will be secured,” he emphasized.

According to Damir Marušić, a senior associate at the Atlantic Council in Washington, Montenegro must remain on the path of Euro-Atlantic integration if it wishes to achieve further progress.

“Montenegro has made much more progress than the rest of the region, especially on its path to EU membership, and it is very important that it succeeds on this road. Particularly following the slowdown and obstacles posed by the European side,“ concluded Mr Marišić.
